Welcome to Sri Mounananda Guruswamigal Matalayam
Located in the heart of Halasur, amidst the ever-growing city of Bengaluru, Shree Mounananda Guruswamigal Mutt is a sacred and serene temple that has stood for over approximately 150 years. The Mutt houses the holy Jeeva Samadhis of Shree Mounananda Guruswamigal and his Dharmapatni, Yogini Unnamalai Amma, revered Siddhas whose spiritual presence continues to guide and bless devotees through countless divine experiences and interventions.
The temple is home to the sacred idols of:
- Siddhi Vinayaka
- Chandra Mauleeshwara (Lord Shiva)
- and Goddess Tripura Sundari
all consecrated by Ayya himself.
In 1992, Lord Subrahmanyar and Lord Veerabhadhrar were installed by devotees.
Historical photographs suggest the Mutt’s existence dates back to the 1860s, with eyewitness accounts from around 1940 affirming the presence of the Jeeva Samadhis. While the exact date of the Jeeva Samadhis remains uncertain, any future documentation or evidence will be respectfully incorporated.
Additionally, in 1951, the great saint Kadapa Sri Paramahamsa Sachidananda Yogishwarar Swamy stayed at the Mutt for nearly six months, engaging in deep sadhana and spiritual practices.
The Sacred Sanctums
The Mutt houses four sanctums, each carrying deep spiritual significance and preserving the divine atmosphere established by Ayya and Amma.
First Sanctum — The Jeeva Samadhis
The first sanctum is the sacred prayer hall containing the holy Jeeva Samadhis of Ayya and Amma. This sanctified space serves as the principal place for:
- silence,
- meditation,
- prayer,
- and inner contemplation,
where devotees and seekers gather in reverence and spiritual reflection.

The second sanctum enshrines the stone idols of:
- Lord Vinayaka
- Lord Subrahmanyar
- and Lord Veerabhadhrar
radiating divine grace and protective spiritual presence.
Third Sanctum — Sri Chandramouleshvara
The third sanctum houses the sacred stone Shiva Lingam known as Sri Chandramouleshvara, sanctified through worship and spiritual vibrations preserved through generations.

Fourth Sanctum — Sri Tripura Sundari
The fourth sanctum is dedicated to Goddess Parvathi in the divine form of Mother Tripura Sundari, embodying compassion, grace, and divine motherly presence.
Sacred Pillars & Spiritual Artistry
The sanctums of:
- Lord Vinayaka,
- Sri Chandramouleshvara,
- and Sri Tripura Sundari
contain four sacred pillars adorned with divine symbols, motifs, and traditional spiritual iconography.
It is believed that Ayya personally painted the mutt using vibrant colors, adorned with unique motifs and symbolic designs. These artistic expressions reflected his vision and spiritual message. Restoration and preservation work is presently in progress to carefully protect and revive these sacred spiritual treasures for future generations.
The Mutt also houses:
- a painted portrait of Srimat Chidambara Swamigal
- and a sacred wooden idol of Sri Ramalinga Swami, both reverentially placed within beautifully crafted wooden frames.
Teachings Through Images and Symbols Carved on the Stone Pillars
Ayya’s direct teachings are not available in written form, but he has shared his messages with devotees through images and symbols carved on the pillars and walls of the mutt. These sacred expressions carry deep meanings that unfold to sincere seekers through meditation and contemplation. Some carvings include: Tirumular, Bhogar, Manikkavasagar, and other Siddhars engraved on the pillars. These subtle carvings are not merely artistic but are intended to be meditated upon, allowing the devotee to intuitively receive Ayya’s timeless teachings. Even amidst the bustling life of the city, the mutt remains a sanctuary of peace, offering a deep inner stillness to all who enter with devotion.
